What’s in My Photography Bag

First and foremost, I want to be fully transparent that you do NOT need to purchase the top-of-the-line products to get this hobby started! When I became super interested in digital photography in 2015, I gifted myself a Sony Alpha a6000 kit for Christmas that year and it included the mirrorless camera, 1 kit lens, miscellaneous accessories, and a carrier bag. I also purchased an off-brand tripod to try out astrophotography and long-exposure capture, but over the years, I’ve learned that I enjoy documenting landscapes, candid moments, and wildlife more than astrophotography.

Since 2015, I’ve committed to thousands of hours photographing anything and everything that I consider beautiful. The very first photos that I documented were humble beginnings compared to what I can create now, and I appreciate this journey because it goes to show that skills improve over time. After I purchased the Sony Alpha a6000, I remembered driving an hour one way to the coast most evenings after work in attempts to capture sunsets. In hindsight, I probably should have checked the weather forecasts before I went out there because some evenings were a complete bust; no sunset colors, and the views were completely socked in by the fog! Now looking back, I realized it’s those determined moments and sacrifices that built character and I was even more grateful for the days where I was able to capture the beautiful sunsets.

My current camera setup

Sony Alpha 7RIII Mirrorless Camera with 42.4MP Full-Frame High-Resolution Sensor, 4K HDR Video, and 3″ LCD Screen Black

This is the latest and greatest camera that I currently own. It is also by far the most expensive thing I’ve ever invested in when it comes to photography. I am a firm believer in “you get what you pay for” and this item is such. The moment I upgraded to this model from the Sony Alpha a6000, I saw a dramatic difference in quality. It also withstands the normal wear and tear and it’s still relatively light to take along for my outdoor/backpacking trips.

Sony SEL2470GM E-Mount Camera Lens: FE 24-70 mm F2.8 G Master Full Frame Standard Zoom Lens Black

This has been my go-to and all-around lens to document all activities. I love how crisp the photo qualities get!  It boasts G Master optics for exceptional image quality with a versatile 24-70mm focal length, a constant f/2.8 aperture, and professional build quality, this lens delivers outstanding performance in various shooting conditions. Its advanced optical elements, fast and quiet autofocus, and compatibility with full-frame and APS-C cameras make it an indispensable tool for capturing high-quality images and videos.

Sony E-mount FE 24mm F1.4 GM Full Frame Wide-angle Prime Lens (SEL24F14GM), Black

In addition to the above lens, I invested in the Sony E-mount FE 24mm F1.4 GM lens because it promised and delivered exceptional image quality and versatility. With a wide F1.4 aperture, this prime lens excels in low-light conditions, delivering stunningly sharp and well-exposed shots. Its sleek design, coupled with G Master optics, makes it an ideal choice for both professional and enthusiast photographers seeking superior performance in a wide-angle prime lens.

Sony SEL1670Z Vario-Tessar T E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS

When I want to save some weight on my trips, this is my go-to backup lens that is much lighter than the G-Master but still provides great quality. This lens sits at a great mid-tier price point for those who want to improve the quality of their work and want to save some money.

My current camera accessories

1. GOgroove Full-Size DSLR Camera Backpack with 15.6 in. Laptop Space, Accessory Storage, Tripod Holder, Waterproof Camera Bag

2. Thule Aspect DSLR Camera Bag Backpack

I’ve tested out different camera carriers and backpacks since I started and I found two that are most suitable for my type. These are my tried and true backpacks that are spacious, comfortable, and sturdy. I have taken them on different trips where flying and driving are required, and they held up the rough transportation like a charm.

Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 with Plate

This is an essential piece of equipment for myself and outdoor photography adventurers who want to have enjoyable hands-free excursions while still being able to capture memorable moments and beautiful sceneries whenever possible. It’s a small, but mighty piece of equipment that can support both mirrorless AND full body cameras with heavy lenses. I love that this gear comes with a lifetime warranty and Peak Design will replace this clip free-of-charge should any part start to malfunction!

Peak Design Carbon Travel Tripod

It is an expensive tripod to invest in, but it’s one of the sturdiest and most used equipment I own. I’ve had this tripod for over 4 years and I’ve put it through environments that I had doubts about, and it surprised me in the best way possible! This was a huge step up from the off-brand tripods that I’ve used in the past. I really appreciate being able to capture pictures where I didn’t need to find rocks and use those as a makeshift stand or worry about my camera accidentally falling!

Peak Design Black Shell Large Form-Fitting Rain and Dust Cover

In bad weather conditions, this cover has been a major lifesaver! It has protected my Sony Alpha 7Riii and the attached lens from rain, sleet, hail, and even snow. The best part is that it barely weighs anything!

Pelican 0915 SD Memory Card Case (Black)

I have a lot of SD cards and to make sure I don’t lose any of them, this portable Pelican case has done wonders. I’m able to fit 12 SD cards comfortably and very securely thanks to the foam padding on the inside of this case.

Remote Control Compatible for Sony, Pixel Wireless Shutter Release Cable TW-283 S1/S2 Timer Remote Control

This remote has been my +1 when I didn’t have a physical +1 with me on my solo adventures! It’s battery-operated and easy to use. It also has a long range of signal so I have not had any issues!

PCTC Screen Protector fit for Sony alpha, 3 Packs Tempered Glass Screen Protector

For all the times that I had accidentally placed my camera down in odd and rugged terrains, I’ve always been grateful that I have a screen protector applied to the camera. I’ve gone through at least 2 different screen protectors as these took the damage and not the actual camera screen! Whew.
